Gordon L. Davis (1912-2010)

Gordon Leslie Davis, former Geophysical Laboratory Staff Member, passed away on 15 February. He was 97 years old. He began his career at Carnegie as a Fellow in 1941 examining radium in ultrabasic rocks.

He joined the scientific staff as a physicist in 1942, and was engaged in defense work with the National Defense Research Committee during World War II. He helped pioneer the field of isotope geochemistry along with colleagues at DTM. He retired from GL in 1977.

Born in Cambridge, MA on 12 September 1912, Gordon moved with his family to Springfield, VT in 1926. He graduated from the University of Vermont in 1943, and received master degrees in chemistry, and geology from UVM and Columbia University.

He is survived by his wife, Niki, and son, Robert Gordon Davis and their extended family. A memorial service for him has not yet been set.
