Lawrence "Pat" Patrick (Support Staff, 1968-2002) Remembered

Lawrence Burtrum Patrick, a long-time Carnegie employee who died on 29 December 2011, was remembered in a memorial service 7 January. The service was held at Galilee Baptist Church in Suitland, Maryland. Friends and family paid moving tributes to him at the service. Lawrence, or “Pat” as he was affectionately called, began working for the Geophysical Laboratory on a temporary basis as Janitor starting 15 July 1968. In 1971, his title was changed to Machinist’s Helper, and a year later, Custodian and Mechanic. In 1981, he was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor. After the department moved to Broad Branch Road from Upton Street in May 1990, Lawrence began working for both the Laboratory and Department of Terrestrial Magnetism. He was the stepfather of Building Engineer Maceo Bacote. Colleagues and friends will remember his cheerful demeanor, loyalty to Carnegie, sense of fairness, good humor, and fondness for flashy cars. Throughout the years he proved to be a vital source of support for any new staff or post-docs arriving on campus. He retired on 30 June 2002.

If you would like to send condolences, please write directly to his widow, Betty, care of Maceo Bacote, 6908 Golden Raintree Ct., Clinton, Maryland, 20735. Any contributions or help for the family would be greatly appreciated.
