John M. Ferry (Carnegie Fellow, 1975-1977) Appointed AGU Fellow

John M. Ferry has been appointed a Fellow in the Volcanology, Geochemistry and Petrology section of the American Geophysical Union this year. Ferry was a postdoctoral fellow at the Geophysical Laboratory from 1975-1977. The American Geophysical Union (AGU) bestows the honor on a mere 0.1% of its members in a given year and always on a scientist "who has attained eminence in the geophysical sciences." The candidate is selected by a committee of eleven Fellows.

Ferry is presently a Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at The Johns Hopkins University. His expertise is in metamorphic petrology. Last year he was recognized for contributions to that field by receiving the Distinguished Geologic Career Award by The Geological Society of America.
