Goncharov Receives Friendship Award

The Geophysical Laboratory's Alexander Goncharov was presented with The 2015 People's Republic of China Friendship Award at the Foreign Experts Symposium in September. 

The Friendship Award is the People's Republic of China's highest award to commend foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China's economic and social progress.

Every year, 50 foreign experts are selected for the Frienship Award, while 100 at certain anniversary celebrations.  From 1991 to 2014, a total of 1,399 foreign experts from 68 countries and regions have received this award.  They work in fields like industry, agriculture, energy, environmetal protection, education, science and technology, medical treatment and public health, and culture and sports.

On the eve of the National Day of China, the Chinese government holds a grand award ceremony at the Great Hall of the People.  China's leaders present this award and the Premier of the State Council meets with the Friendship Award winners followed by a reception.
