Bhadram Receives Postdoctoral Award

Venkata Srinu Bhadram will receive the ninth Postdoctoral Innovation and Excellence Award (PIE). These awards are made through nominations from the departments and are chosen by the Office of the President. The recipients are awarded a cash prize for their exceptionally creative approaches to science, strong mentoring, and contributing to the sense of campus community.

Diatomic Inmates of a Molecular Prison

Clathrate cages provide a unique opportunity to study the quantum dynamics of confined guest molecules. In this work, we use inelastic neutron scattering to demonstrate the first 2D hindered rotor behavior of H2 trapped within a molecular clathrate.

To e-, or not to e-, the question for exotic Si-III (BC8)

Is Si-III a metal with freely travelling electrons, or a semiconductor with a discrete energy gap that can "stop" the flow? Our new work shows that the latter is true, but the band gap of Si-III is so small that electrons can "proceed with caution" through the structure.
